The reasoning behind it is genuinely sensible, which is exactly why it needs to be described accurately rather than dismissed or oversold.

That is not a claim the practice is harmful or useless. It is a statement about what a reader can go and check, and it means every confident number attached to microdosing — how much you will lose, how much muscle you will keep, how well you will maintain — is currently an extrapolation rather than a finding.
Why the Idea Is Reasonable
Give the argument its due, because it is not fringe reasoning.
Side effects are dose-related. Gastrointestinal effects are the dose-limiting problem with this drug class, which is the entire reason the approved schedule titrates slowly rather than starting high. Someone who tolerates a low dose poorly at a higher one is not being irrational to stay put.

What a Maintenance Trial Would Have to Show
It is worth spelling out what would actually settle this, because it clarifies how far the current evidence is from doing so.
A trial establishing microdosing would need to randomize people who have already lost weight to either a maintenance dose or the full dose, follow them long enough for regain to appear if it were going to, and measure body composition rather than only the scale.
